Barcelona’s search for a Neymar replacement is getting more difficult than they had anticipated as they have seen a second bid for Philippe Coutinho rejected. Jurgen Klopp has always insisted his star man is not for sale and after Liverpool rejected the second bid of about 100 million euros, the German coach said he won’t let the player leave, no matter the price.
If we thought Philippe Coutinho was being protected only by his coach, then we thought wrong. Now the club owners have also come out publicly to reiterate that the Brazilian is not for sale… “We wish to offer clarity as regards to our position on a possible transfer of Philippe Coutinho,” a statement on behalf of the club owners read.
“The club’s definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes.”
Liverpool will travel to face Watford on Saturday for their opening game. Jurgen Klopp was quick to show his appreciation for the owners’ statement about Coutinho. He had this to say in his pre-match interview… “If FSG is saying something like this, then that’s the statement. I’ve said it already a few times, but maybe it’s not been 100% clear, but now you can read it – maybe that’s the difference!”
“That’s the way it will go and there’s nothing else to say about this.”
He went further to explain that his main concern was the fact that Philippe Coutinho won’t be available for the game due to back injury, when he was asked if he had to make him happy… “That’s how life is. It’s not about that in this moment, Phil is not available for us, and that for me is the bigger issue, that he’s not able to play now.”
